To fill a layer or selection with the foreground color, press Alt/Option+Delete. To fill a layer or selection with the background color, press Command/Ctrl+Delete. Now to get really cool: To fill just the area with pixels, hold down the Shift key as well as the keys I mentioned above. This toggles the Preserve Transparency option. Press Shift+Backspace to open the Fill dialog box.

As you might know by pressing Ctrl + Z in Photoshop you can undo the previous action you made. When you press the same key combination again, it will redo the previous action. Since I was InDesign user first this is quite unnatural to me as I always need to undo multiple times to get to the desired state.
